Opinions of parties are not same as facts. Id like to hear those views too. But the use of some docs and suppression of others is wrong. Noone is saying dr didnt make mistakes but so did the system around her.

It happens all.the.time;investigations, inquest, Med Neg, civil lit. system errors have been evident in many avoidable death investigations. It should not take criminal conviction of a doctor for medics to have this level of outrage. But as it has, can it now be sorted please?

A valid point & more medical outrage on systemic errors would be v welcome. But this is about the persecution of 1 dr in a way that will make many others act the wrong way. Hard baking in of probs for the future.

Do you not think though that some doctors have become complacent as they know they won’t be charged with anything. I believe around 85 manslaughter charges in medical profession since 1700. If a doctor is criminally negligent they should be found guilty

They should but it is rarely that simple. Very few cases are the fault of a recklessly negligent clinician. We must start getting to the root of the causes of error.

Agree Shaun. Candour is basically very difficult in the current climate. And although number of medical manslaughter cases small it seems to be picking up inexorably. Difficult to be tried by non peers and difficult for public to have confidence if tried by peers.

I still think very low Mike. Sound 30 in last 30 years across all NHS. Compare that to other industries and extremely low. It feels like NHS staff believe they should be exempt from such charges as there is a higher risk. My perception is NHS staff believe they are untouchable

I can assure you at the cutting edge we actually feel very vulnerable. How are the 30 plotted it ‘feels’ like the pace is quickening.

Not 100% sure of plotting Mike. From an outside point of view maybe quickening as times are changing or as in our sons case that many failing and lies I would be happy to see another manslaughter charge. Maybe the issue is the NHS is pissing families off more and more with lies

In 2011 Francis said if NHS culture didnt change NHS would be overwhelmed by tsunami of anger coming that people were ignorant of. Still prescient I think.

Indeed. He also said we should have an individual statutory duty of candour and a single regulator. Equally prescient, I suspect.
