Of course views all mine. All without prejudice. Just a regular chap after all. Oh...and RT's may equally imply ridicule as endorsement.

"Inspectors found a backlog of 23,000 chest x-rays that had never been reviewed by radiologists, or any other staff with training in how to detect signs of the potentially fatal disease." >Woah! And: "CQC took the unusual step of ordering checks at every NHS hospital in England"pic.twitter.com/rnEMpO5BlR

      >>Truly unbelievable! Unqualified NHS staff allowed to check thousands of x-rays, for over a DECADE, with fears that the practice may be widespread prompting an urgent all-hospital search... & it takes a member of the public to tell @CareQualityComm before they notice? What?!?

Slightly misleading language - the 1st person to check a CXR is whoever ordered it. And no one “unqualified” orders X-rays. The BIG issue is the lack of formal reporting by a Radiologist

My choice of language may differ from your own preference Joanne, but the fact remains that nobody who was qualified to do so, looked at the images. Hence any that did were 'unqualified'. Doesn't really lessen the horror of the situation though, no?

I disagree. No qualified radiologist (or respiratory consultant possibly) reported the images. “Unqualified” staff looked at the image - most reasonably that was the clinical team looking after the patient

I see where you're going. I realise treating clinicians will view the images. But would I be right to think it's standard procedure for such images to be viewed and reported on by a qualified radiologist? And that for good reason, this is the qualification which counts here?

That is the BIG issue. Exactly. All staff who order radiology requests must have IRMER & interpretation skills. Formal reporting often days (inpatients) or weeks (GP) later, unless sought out urgently, by Radiologist

Fair enough. Perhaps my earlier wording could've been sharper there. Tbh, my focus in that tweet was on my incredulity that yet again, it has taken a member of public to open the eyes of CQC to a major safety risk. It's a path I've walked...

It is of huge concern without a doubt. Since I’m in Scotland no CQC here. Is there any info on how a member of the public knew? Unless they were a victim of it I suppose...

I don't know, but that's not an unreasonable guess. That was certainly the link for me. Years of digging left me with several opinions on CQC's inspection 'regime'. Few of them favourable, frankly. So sadly, this actually doesn't surprise me too much.
