They have been lowering the 'safe' cholesterol level for years putting more people on statins. Why am I so suspicious of this

My mates risk of heart attack is apparently 30% over a 10yr period, so according to GP he should take statins that give him severe side effects. He is 80 this year so he's probably already at high risk of that over next 10 yrs

The headlines are good at promoting an increase risk of death as say 25%, but if your original risk was only 0.5 in the first place, then it still remains low.
