In my mind, Yes. I guess it would end up in High Court to get an answer. It does happen. @katemasters67https://twitter.com/katemasters67/status/607629411286982656 …

@C7RKY@doctorcaldwell is CPR the one treatment that you cannot refuse? The only way to do it is to get a DNACPR and a doctor can say 'no' -
@katemasters67@doctorcaldwell I wouldn't accept that there is any medical treatment which you cannot refuse, if you have capacity. No? -
@C7RKY@doctorcaldwell it's a very grey area... -
@katemasters67@doctorcaldwell Personally, I see this in a very balck & white way tbh. I'd be interested to debate those who see grey here. -
@C7RKY@doctorcaldwell it should be..personal autonomy dictates that..but you have to have medical agreement for this one. -
@C7RKY@doctorcaldwell if a doctor issues DNACPR re patient wishes, & doesn't resus patient who could have lived have they helped pt to die? -
@katemasters67@doctorcaldwell If it was in keeping with a competent pt's wishes, I'm not sure they have a choice? http://www.gmc-uk.org/guidance/ethical_guidance/consent_guidance_respecting_patients_decision.asp … -
@C7RKY@doctorcaldwell something GMC should consider? - 1 more reply

@C7RKY@doctorcaldwell in the form of a DNACPR? Another grey area as that's always a medical decision.. -
@katemasters67@doctorcaldwell No, it's not, imho. It's a medical decision to withold treatment, but giving CPR isn't witholding treatment. -
@C7RKY@doctorcaldwell DNACPR is a medical decision..if you ask for one a doctor can say no, therefore assault? -
@katemasters67@doctorcaldwell DNACPR is medical decision. Nobody can demand inappropriate treatment. But CPR is a treatment you can refuse -
@C7RKY@doctorcaldwell but can you refuse it without a doctor's say so? If a doctor doesn't agree they have responsibility to preserve life -
@katemasters67@doctorcaldwell Yes, you can I believe. Even if the doctor thinks your decision makes no sense at all. Just looking it up...

@C7RKY@doctorcaldwell it touches on the assisted dying issue..if a doctor says CPR is likely to work, they will not initiate a DNACPR.? -
@katemasters67@doctorcaldwell I was more focused on situations where prev discussion was held & pt made an informed choice not to have CPR. -
@C7RKY@doctorcaldwell a DNACPR..very grey area! If CPR is then carried out..is it assault?
