Of course views all mine. All without prejudice. Just a regular chap after all. Oh...and RT's may equally imply ridicule as endorsement.

@Cleverestcookie Perhaps. It's entirely possible I'd end up agreeing with the author. Difficult to know from the brief text I can see tbh.

@C7RKY that's how I read it from the first paragraph. Would be surprised otherwise

@Cleverestcookie I understand why you say that, but being surprised by attitudes towards consent has become a regular thing for me. :-/

@C7RKY this was a lawyer and ethicist so I'd hope they were highlighting the inadequacy of current routine practice

@Cleverestcookie In my experience, that can depend on who's paying the tab, but fingers crossed you're right with them having that CV.

@Cleverestcookie I may invest in a subscription at some point - see if there's anything worth debating/quoting in there. Important subject.

@C7RKY I've read the article, it was pitched as I anticipated proposing gaining proper consent from patient rather than 'doing it to them'

@Cleverestcookie That's good to hear, thanks Cathy. Looks like the courts are starting to agree with the author too > http://ukhumanrightsblog.com/2015/03/13/supreme-court-reverses-informed-consent-ruling-sidaway-is-dead/#more-25512 …

@C7RKY then that's fine (and needs recording). If patient/carer makes a choice themselves then that's fine (and needs recording).

@C7RKY stop clinicians being paternalistic. However, patients need to realise it's their decision and they take responsibility for it

@Cleverestcookie V much so. I think this emphasises the futility of that choice to be responsible tho, if you don't have the neccesary info.

@Cleverestcookie Not sure I understand that? If paternalism brings the greatest personal risk for HCPs, why do so many still engage in it?

@Cleverestcookie Ain't that the truth. And it doesn't just apply to medicine, but the power granted to clinicians makes it more concerning.
