I'm searching my timeline, but haven't yet found 1 person who's happy with #Francis report & has no link to gov/NHS. What does that tell us?

@C7RKY@Cleverestcookie Model could work if position responsible to Board, not trust executive. Of course, relies on board doing their duty -
@MatSilk@Cleverestcookie Pay cheques all come from the same pot in that situation Matt. I'm not convinced there's enough separation there. -
@C7RKY@Cleverestcookie Seems to work for Helene Donnelly up in Staffordshire and Stoke. But accept that point... -
@MatSilk@Cleverestcookie Helene is exceptional...as are the circumstances in which she works. Good learning, but not universally applicable -
@C7RKY@Cleverestcookie Maybe not ATM, but one day? I know she and CEO up there would like to see it rolled out across all orgs -
@MatSilk@Cleverestcookie It has merit, but its success is ultimately dictated by behaviour of CEO when NOT under a spotlight like MidStaffs -
@C7RKY@Cleverestcookie Someone could be more robustly on hand with a spotlight more regularly? This is all theoretical... -
@MatSilk@Cleverestcookie Maybe I've done 1 too many laps of this track, but who? Who can claim credibility/integrity in this area now? - 12 more replies

@C7RKY problem with PALS from my experience is that the individual usually has insufficient knowledge of how to navigate the org to best adv -
@Cleverestcookie I can only comment on my own experience, but PALS oft act as an early warning system for the trust. Knowledge was secondary -
@C7RKY@Cleverestcookie PALS totallyFAILED me at meeting after my bungled op &passed on false info to 'independent'counsellor so she hurt me -
@sillyoldjen@Cleverestcookie I'm sorry to say I'm not surprised. 140 limitations don't permit me to express my full reservations about PALS -
@C7RKY@sillyoldjen it's a non-independent role often filled with people without the necessary skills and experience -
@Cleverestcookie@sillyoldjen I'm sure that's true. But they commonly only act as a means to gather info which helps prepare trust's defence -
@C7RKY@sillyoldjen well I'd only expect it to be a means of sourcing response from the trust to a query, not an independent investigation -
@Cleverestcookie@sillyoldjen Oh no, there's no pretence of independence about it. This is often the forerunner to inform 'weeding/seeding'.

@C7RKY ok. Couldn't be a single measure for that reason -
@Cleverestcookie No, I agree. Just not convinced this measure will add any real value. Poor trusts can simply undermine the role & carry on. -
@C7RKY I think they would do that even if stronger legislative measures were brought in. Rogue trusts are manipulating everything presently -
@Cleverestcookie That, we definitely agree on. It's toothless regulation of the profession which allows this to persist, that bothers me.
