@C7RKY@mgtmccartney@WhistlingDixie4 Ethics Autonomy Beneficence Non malificence Justice You want to choose just painful futile treatment? -
@doctorcaldwell@mgtmccartney@WhistlingDixie4 No. But I want the right to make that decision where I'm able to. Not have it made for me. -
@C7RKY@doctorcaldwell@WhistlingDixie4 different from judgement -about informing not making decisions. SDM in my blood. See#patientparadox -
@mgtmccartney@doctorcaldwell@WhistlingDixie4 Forgive me..SDM? Appreciate point re informing, not making decisions. (Tho I don't like it!) -
@C7RKY@doctorcaldwell@WhistlingDixie4 shared decision making, sorry

@C7RKY@mgtmccartney@WhistlingDixie4 when pushed a true professional behaves ethically even if that means punishment under the law? -
@doctorcaldwell@mgtmccartney@WhistlingDixie4 Not clear how telling pt compromises ethics? If your case is so strong, why not convince pt? -
@C7RKY my point is why do we HAVE to discuss and get agreement to decline a futile treatment? We don't HAVE to discuss any other futile RX? -
@doctorcaldwell Because people get a bit touchy if someone makes a decision that could end their life without consultation perhaps? -
@C7RKY this is why Gold Service Framework, Amber Care Bundle, Advanced Directives are so important. Failing to prepare is preparing to fail. -
@doctorcaldwell I'm with you on this one. I now have a power of attorney for my mum & a clear idea of her wishes. But fear drove me to do so -
@C7RKY not fear compassion. Neither of my parents wanted heroics. One died peacefully in a hospital one in nursing home. No drips just peace -
@doctorcaldwell Sorry - I missed this at the time. I can assure you it was fear in our case doc. Sad maybe, but absolutely true I'm afraid.

@C7RKY@mgtmccartney@WhistlingDixie4 not if you read GMC guidance carefully. Maybe illegal but not unethical. Ethics rule professionalism? -
@doctorcaldwell@mgtmccartney@WhistlingDixie4 GMC guidance is waste of paper imho. Legally unenforceable. Case law's all that truly matters
