"Patients do not need their doctors' permission to tape a consultation" MDU has to concede And you should. EVERY time http://www.themdu.com/guidance-and-advice/latest-updates-and-advice/what-should-you-do-if-a-patient-wants-to-record-a-consultation …
@Cleverestcookie Depends on the appt type? I'm used to observing interractions & taking notes. After cancer appt tho, was glad I had notes!

@C7RKY that way they are accountable for the info they give. Patient recording discussion would also pick up Q&A detail. -
@Cleverestcookie I think the reason this is resisted, is because it will throw the informed consent debate wide open. Lawyers avoid that one -
@C7RKY easier to demonstrate, surely? -
@Cleverestcookie Easier to demonstrate the standard fell short too. And I fear that is all too often the case, from stories I'm hearing tbh. -
@C7RKY but why would clinicians not want informed consent? Paternalism? Surely most consultants aren't like this now??? -
@Cleverestcookie I didn't expect it either, but that's exactly what I've found tbh. Unsure why? More you say, more you can get caught out? -
@C7RKY the more information, clearly presented, with benefits/hazards explained, the better outcome for all parties. -
@Cleverestcookie I agree. So back to why doesn't it always happen? Not enough time allocated to consultations? Paternalism? Incompetence? - 12 more replies

@C7RKY I think it should be routine for doc to provide a written account of what they are telling patient as nobody is going to remember. -
@Cleverestcookie@C7RKY As I have twice been 'misled' over past 2 yrs, I second that. Problem is that one naturally expects truthfulanswers -
@LeCygne23@Cleverestcookie That's so true. We desperately want (and NEED) to trust in such a vulnerable situation. We want to believe. -
@C7RKY@LeCygne23 sometimes I believe it's poor communication skills of the clinician rather than the will to misrepresent. Subsequently >>> -
@Cleverestcookie@C7RKY Surgeon told me an untruth last month. Understand why. But I knew what he said was untrue. Destroys trust entirely. -
@LeCygne23@C7RKY absolutely. I hope the surgeon knew you knew they were lying -
@Cleverestcookie@LeCygne23 I tend to be more direct, (surprise, surprise). When surgeon lied about cancer growth rate to my mum, I said.. > -
@Cleverestcookie@LeCygne23 "Is everyone incapable of doing maths around here, or is it SOP to lie to your patients' faces?" He curled up... - 6 more replies
