I've had a pretty hard think about care data and on balance think we've more to gain by opting in.
.@helliewm @mellojonny @iona_heath @GeraintLewis Once private industry has bought the data, how will we ensure it's only used appropriately?

@C7RKY @helliewm@mellojonny@iona_heath Hello. No data are being sold. Please see http://www.england.nhs.uk/2014/01/20/guardian-story/ … -
@GeraintLewis @helliewm@mellojonny@iona_heath Hi Geraint. Orgs will pay a fee & receive data for that, won't they? Am I missing something? -
@C7RKY Hi there. HSCIC use a cost recovery model. Published data are free. -
A 'cost recovery model'
@GeraintLewis? So where are those costs recovered from, with this model? The orgs receiving the data for 'free'? -
@C7RKY Hi. The HSCIC recovers it's costs from the recipient. -
.
@GeraintLewis So they pay a cost-based fee & in exchange, they receive the data? Explaining fee calcs doesn't stop it being sale of data. -
@C7RKY@GeraintLewis well said John, and when NHS record on control of data is so poor, why should we trust them?http://m.bbc.co.uk/news/technology-26016802 … - 5 more replies
