@C7RKY bear in mind, John, my legal training encourages me to be able to argue both sides of any argument regardless!

@legalaware Which is great if you have a moral position & truth to represent. 'Cartwheeling through a minefield' springs to mind otherwise.. -
@C7RKY haha. I remember LJ Laws in Inner Temple advising us that the law avoids moral debates. He was then head of the Court of Appeal. -
@legalaware In my simple mind, the law is supposed to be a practical representation of our society's moral compass. It commonly disappoints. -
@C7RKY@legalaware I think that's part of unmet expectations of public: they don't realise law & morals are different (though often overlap) -
@Peter_Kirkham@legalaware That's because we make an assumption, which ought to be a reasonable one - that they should be broadly the same. -
@C7RKY@legalaware >law must apply equally to all & so should be based on non-moral considerations (harm to others primarily). -
@Peter_Kirkham@legalaware Has a ring of 'common law vs statute' debate we once had. Another one that touches on it > http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UTGi3h3Id1w&feature=youtu.be … - 3 more replies

@GrumpyOldDoc Haha! That's magnificent! Wish I'd thought of that one. Too many cryptic crosswords for you I suspect Doc? :)
