Of course views all mine. All without prejudice. Just a regular chap after all. Oh...and RT's may equally imply ridicule as endorsement.

@paulrogers002 Agreed! Consent is being abused in several areas of medical world imho. If you need to bully/mislead, your argument is weak.

@C7RKY Medical profession do seem esp. insecure about these sort of questions. Wrong theory of disease until a century ago..

@paulrogers002 Shhh...you might cause some to question the underlying 'science', supporting the arrogant assumption of always being right!

@C7RKY That fear haunts them daily, I'm sure - most repeat medical rituals by rote, just as mistaken forebears did..

@paulrogers002 It's amazing how the dynamic of the relationship can be influenced, merely by learning rules of informed consent. Says it all

@C7RKY Too true - and most concerns about 'quackery' are about professional exclusivity/authority role, not protecting patients as such.

@paulrogers002 We fundamentally want to trust, esp when it's about our health & we don't understand the speciality. That makes us vulnerable

@C7RKY Rise of (often mistaken..!) self-diagnosis courtesy of the Net has made patients a lot more confident and proactive though.

@paulrogers002 For those with time & determination, I'd steer them towards NICE clinical guidelines & underpinning research. Doctors' rules!

@paulrogers002 Very much so. Most will get steered towards NHS choices. Has it's uses, but there are a LOT of things not detailed on there.

@paulrogers002 Haha! You should see how the concept of consent is twisted into a 'partnership decision'. Have to dig V deep to find reality!

@C7RKY Hm - so what is a 'partnership decision' then? Doctor telling patient what to do?

@paulrogers002 Exactly. Followed by patient accepting decision without challenge, 'in partnership'. It's an overlay, to disguise real rules.
