This is a very UK NHS viewpoint - eg in USA many patients see themselves as the hub of their own healthcare - the one agency who must be updated. In UK its the GP who must be updated on every aspect of patient’s care @gmcuk

Keeping patient fully informed allows the patient to more easily seek a second opinion in the USA because patients may access online their full records from their healthcare provider if they wish & show to another Doctor

This is very unfair statement. We are the doctors and we care and we must always do what is right for patients.

It’s not free, we pay, if we aren’t paying enough that is another discussion. But it’s not free..

The NHS (and other heath systems) are promoted as being *free*. It's meant as a positive, but I wonder if the downside of this is that patients/public don't feel ownership, and are more likely to put up with bad service because "you can't expect too much from a free service".

My experience is that patient expectations are going up. Often unrealistically.

Perhaps it's only considered unrealistic due to the negative culture among many NHS staff. An ingrained culture of arrogance, bullying, dismissiveness and negligence tends to lower respect for patients and therefore what they want or need will be deemed as unreasonable.

My "unreasonable" patient demands:
Treat me as a customer with honest, integrity & respect
Operate lawfully & honour my rights
Give me access to MY records
Email me instead of post
Fix your business processes
Operate safely
