If I had a pound for every time a clinician or other HCP has asked me to raise issues as I have more freedom than they have I’d not be where I am now - unable to pay bills or feed myself. Would I still do it despite everything? Yes I definitely would & will.

That happened to me too. After a scary experience where I was in a ward untreated for urosepsis for hours, a consultant begged me to "make a complaint". He said the doctors all knew how bad the nurse-managing was but they could do nothing about it because patients won't complain.

It really helps if patients complain. It has more effect than us filling in incident forms that seem to disappear into the ether. Managers have to respond to patient complaints.

Agree, but there are many reasons why patients don't complain: - Fear of aggravating those caring for them - Fear that they are stupidly misunderstanding what happened - Politeness - Awareness that the system is overstretched - Fear of making matters worse - Low self-confidence

Patients are in a hugely vulnerable position. Already fearful re health, inside a complex system that is confusing. Big power imbalance with staff in the know but pts v uncertain. Yet this is not acknowledged even between staff never mind with patients.

Being admitted to hospital is, I guess, like being parachuted at night with no supplies into a hostile country, dreadful weather, with an alien language and culture?https://www.dropbox.com/s/j3eaz9pksnk8riu/Ward%20Rounds%20Finding%20Safety%20in%20Danger.pptx?dl=0 …

It's nothing, I know, but one struck me as very odd in hospital long ago (apart from the lack of privacy - soundproof curtains) is the fact that everything is on castors!

Even the Laptops are on castors so defeating the purpose they were designed for ....

Are there audit trails in hospitals ie computer pathways where the " falsified documents " can be proven? Important question to me!
