Of course views all mine. All without prejudice. Just a regular chap after all. Oh...and RT's may equally imply ridicule as endorsement.

For the record, I don't believe in shared decision making. I believe it's my decision and mine alone. A clinician's role is to guide me in that decision using their specialist knowledge. Always more likely we'll defer to 'expertise' in an emergency situation though. Me included.

Put an 85y patient with end stage renal failure before 2 renal Physicians, one will persuade patient to have dialysis and the other persuade patient to not have dialysis such is the power of the Doctor We should at least know the power of our position

How about give the patient the options and probable outcomes for each and let them decide?

YES!! Informed consent is alive and it lives down under - thank you! That's exactly what I expect as a patient.

I absolutely appreciate your point. It's a subject I've had cause to study (tho wish I hadn't). Are you familiar with the Montgomery ruling over here? That's shifted the balance somewhat - the patient's more important in deciding what should be disclosed. https://www.supremecourt.uk/decided-cases/docs/UKSC_2013_0136_Judgment.pdf …

There's a shocker. Patient's best interests, eh? I'd recommend looking through the excellent blog of @NigelPooleQC to gain perspective on the judgement. His latest 3-part offering begins here. Hope it helps. Good luck! https://nigelpooleqc.blogspot.com/2018/09/after-montgomery-part-one-bolam-returns.html …
