ZHH This is deeply worrying for all patients! You are looking for “immunity” of some kind? Totally counterproductive. You should be focusing your energies+efforts on proactive

No doctor wants "immunity" from anything We wake up every morning & have sleepless nights because we have dedicated ourselves to patient safety! What we want is a system that is safe The current system is NOT safe for patients And we are forced to take the blame It is not right

Everybody wants a system that's safe. The only debate there is who is preventing progress. But current efforts are very much themed around uniquely securing immunity from GNM prosecution for doctors imho. Something I, as a member of the public, find to be objectionable frankly.

Dr Bawa Garba was scapegoated by an unfair overstretched system. She was doing the work of several doctors. It could have been any of us in that situation that day. She escalated Jack appropriately to her consultant who neglected to review him and got off scott free. (1)

(2) doctors do not seek to be above the law, we seek a workplace environment and culture where we can practice medicine safely as we were taught; and not be doing 10 things at once and miss/forget things.

You'll get nothing but support from me on the workplace environment point - must be addressed. And I'm still trying to understand how Mr O'Riordan walked away from this unscathed, so with you on that point too. Scapegoating I'm yet to be convinced of tho:https://twitter.com/c7rky/status/1049233366095200256?s=21 …

ZHH Isn’t the workplace environment issue to do with previous generations of HCPs who worked ridiculous hours? EWTD involved somewhere?

I've no doubt that's playing a part - likely a significant one. But I've equally no doubt it's not the only factor at play.

I don't have the access I'd want to form strong opinions of the whole, but the brief glimpses I have managed tell me there's a seriously screwed up dynamic which demands attention. Between the cover up culture and things like this, I can only imagine tbh.https://twitter.com/gourmetpenguin/status/1049304981382283264 …
