Judge nichol accepted that all the systemic failures could not be explored at trial. Dr Bawa Garba is no criminal. We won #Sellu but my view is losing an appeal does not confirm guilt. The criminal court is not right place to determine blame in complex healthcare related deaths.

Dear
@DrJennyVaughan John means well and you or me or even@doctorcaldwell will not change his mind. He cares a lot for#justice but he genuinly believe#BawaGarba conviction was justified. The best thing is to agree to disagree and now focus on the future. What next?@gmcuk -
Anybody can change my mind if they present me with evidence to demonstrate why I should do so, Umesh. I'm open minded. What I believe is that nobody has put an evidenced argument together which demonstrates that her conviction is unjustified. Despite impressions to the contrary.
-
I think it’s hard to say that the systemic failings were considered. All you can really say is that the systemic failings presented to, and available to the court, were considered. Not the same thing
-
I don't think anyone can say anything for sure without the trial transcript (I'm looking at you again here,
@drcmday). It's important to be clear the jury (not just the court) heard such evidence, but otherwise I wouldn't disagree. Do you think something was left out? Why, if so? -
Didn’t talk to any of the trainees on the unit: hard to see how a clear picture of “normal for that unit” could have taken place without that; wider reports into quality of training can much later
-
Ok, but if the jury got to hear what 'exceptionally challenging circumstances for that unit' were like on the day in question, then does that not better serve her defence than a more general picture of normality?
-
Not sure: things like showing a consultant an abnormal blood result and having that ignored. I learnt pretty quickly that if you challenged that or pushed for a response, you could get taken to pieces. Public humiliation. That’s a cultural issue
-
Not calling a consultant if you were worried because you didn’t expect a response or any support

Spot on John. I couldn't agree more.
-
Thank you, Sara. I'm glad it's not just me who feels this way.
-
I'm still baffled by the denial of facts and depiction of Bawa-Garba as superhuman. It's really dented my confidence in the medical profession.
-
Mine too. When evidence gets ignored/twisted in matters of this sort, it draws into question how 'evidence-based' every other aspect of medicine truly is. Which is supposedly the basis upon which the public should have confidence in the profession.
-
Exactly. There's also a grotty mix of arrogance, entitlement and childishness woven through many comments which I (naively) didn't expect.
-
Toxic and entirely unexpected, I agree.

Pretty sure we're nowhere near the outer limits of the usefulness of
#bawagarba to support zero accountability. Might not be a new form of misuse:@djnicholl misrepresented a medical board from over two centuries ago to rubbish the GMC.https://twitter.com/djnicholl/status/984761975006736385?s=19 …
-
I'm surprised the GMC hasn't reacted to some of the abuse being hurled in its direction by those that it regulates, tbh. It's been quite a spectacle.
-
Along that line, the hospital has been vilified, waited years for a FOI to reveal actual prompt investigation and numerous practical responses, & just this year publicly documented extraordinary loyalty to Dr BG. What were they thinking? Thought nothing could help them? Shame?
