No doctor wants "immunity" from anything We wake up every morning & have sleepless nights because we have dedicated ourselves to patient safety! What we want is a system that is safe The current system is NOT safe for patients And we are forced to take the blame It is not right

No one is even suggesting that. The PSA would still be able to appeal MPT outcomes. MPT has lay persons, lawyers as well as doctors sitting on tribunals. You can still sue your doctor. Where there is an absence of recklessness or wilful neglect GNM is appropriate. Not otherwise.
-
MPTS have proven themselves to be out of touch with public opinion, imho. Including lay members, who will now likely face increased scrutiny going forward. I think GMC were right to appeal. Don't understand your last point. How would you categorise recklessness/wilful neglect?

No I don't think that. CPS advises against corporate manslaughter because it's easier to convict individuals despite serious corporate flaws so we have a massive injustice. Victims of medical mistakes need justice- needs corporate accountability not just front line accountability

ZHH How about we meet with a group of other
@UHNM_NHS medics + ex medics to discuss this + how you + your profession can easily preclude the prosecution of individuals with proactive#patientsafety In fact discussed it with one safto! .... -
Current patient safety problems can't be solved by clinicians acting "proactively"...in a systemically underfunded system under increasing pressures I'm afraid that it is nigh on impossible for doctors to mitigate risk to their practise without increasing risk to pts.
-
ZHH Very difficult to accept that, James. Have you asked me what proactive
#patientsafety is?@BrennanSurgeon@nialldowney@ObsGynKenobi -
You think most doctors don't already try to be proactively 'safe'? I accept safety training should be an integral part of any doctors CPD, including human factors, mindfulness and technical training... But every doctor has limits. They are being breached. But share ur thoughts

ZHH James, Do you + does your trust,
@AoMRC, your royal college, your association or society, your unions etc have a strategy for delivering#patientsafety? -
The answer is yes for me and yes for some of the organisations. Can't speak for them though
-
ZHH Good. It’s in a public document?

Brilliant video here from
@sidneydekkercom &@JamesTitcombe We need a culture of openness & truthfulness Often finding an individual to scapegoat for an adverse outcome will only hamper efforts at preventing the same adverse event from happening againhttps://youtu.be/JDpP5dBHR_M - 1 more reply
