A 9yr old girl given detention, threatened with suspension and now politicians are calling for her to be expelled... all for having & expressing an opinion? And not an entirely unreasonable opinion at that. WTF is going on down under? Get a grip.https://www.indy100.com/article/australian-girl-sit-national-anthem-nine-year-old-school-expelled-8537346 …
Well I'd hope not. That would be more indicative of a dictatorship than a democracy. Not that it's preventing some from trying to dictate anyway, by the sounds of things. What's the public reaction to this story down there?

Storm in a tea cup here. Typical media using this rubbish as a smokescreen...probs covering up that we've got another new PM

-
Ha! Look over here, not over there? How depressingly familiar. Not that the poor 9yr girl old will suffer any less as a result of knowing that.
-
Agreed. She's just collateral damage to them. Not sure I know this country anymore. Moved back after 20yrs in London; it's a parochial backwater & getting worse.
-
Aren't we all? It just seems even more cruel when they start on 9yr olds. I always hoped my impression of Aussies as straight-talking and bold would keep a check on such things. Dishing out a few reality slaps where required to stop it in its tracks. So much for hope...

You're right, we were renowned for calling a spade a feckin shovel! Now, we're more like America. So much more. There an immense fakeness about life here now. It's quite surreal.
-
I'm sorry to say, but I feel the same about here. The problem these days is becoming a question of where do you run away to? It's permeating the world. And where it hasn't, they bomb.
-
Absolutely. There is nowhere to go. We just have to keep fighting it. The rise of far right governments is truly horrendous. We need to keep fighting that.
