Thank you,
@doctorcaldwell, this is brilliant: humour at its poignant and thought-provoking best. Will share shamelessly.2 replies 0 retweets 5 likes -

If you’re still going to be looked after is a big issue re DNACPR and with good cause. How Many doctors still think DNACPR means ‘do not treat?’

Unfair to staff who are kind, dedicated and trying their best. We need to recognise that bad things occasionally happen, but not whip the very people who are trying to help us. Demoralising the carers will certainly undermine care. Let's look for solutions together.

Except..... a couple of v senior doctors have told me (in public seminars in front of lawyers and HCPs) they would do CPR on me regardless of my ADRT. Because I'm not terminally ill. Because (they think) I'd thank them afterwards. Because (they think) its in my best interests.

I wouldn't want you to become the test case, but I do hope both that they are a minority and that they are wrong about what the law would say. We have a right to refuse 'for any reason, whether sensible or not.' Would they likewise force transfusions on Jehova's Witnesses?

They understand they might be breaking the law - but they believe ethically it would be the right thing to do nonetheless. They have a conscientious objection to NOT giving treatment. One describes it nobly as 'civil disobedience'.

Like there's anything even remotely civil about it?! That's a tenuous line of argument at best for me. Especially when criminal disobedience is the alternate argument.
