Of course views all mine. All without prejudice. Just a regular chap after all. Oh...and RT's may equally imply ridicule as endorsement.

If you’re still going to be looked after is a big issue re DNACPR and with good cause. How Many doctors still think DNACPR means ‘do not treat?’

Unfair to staff who are kind, dedicated and trying their best. We need to recognise that bad things occasionally happen, but not whip the very people who are trying to help us. Demoralising the carers will certainly undermine care. Let's look for solutions together.

Except..... a couple of v senior doctors have told me (in public seminars in front of lawyers and HCPs) they would do CPR on me regardless of my ADRT. Because I'm not terminally ill. Because (they think) I'd thank them afterwards. Because (they think) its in my best interests.

Did none of the lawyers see fit to warn those senior doctors that they were threatening to commit a criminal act? Not that they should need telling!

Lawyers in 1 seminar were aghast at threat to treat me counter to my ADRT +apparently bemused in the other Yes, lawyers warned it was potentially assault but both doctors (separately) pointed out that no HCP has (yet) been found guilty of GIVING treatment. @JoSamanta2 @israblack

Their point was that, even though I'd just said I refused CPR under all circumstances (and they did not doubt my capacity) + I said I had an ADRT refusing CPR, + my Welfare Attorney was in same seminar + supported my refusal - nevertheless if I had cardiac arrest they'd do CPR.

I certainly wouldn't do it, I also remind those doctors quibbling about writing fluids and pain/agitation management up for the terminally ill. or frail old ladies not expected to survive hip surgery after a fall, they have a duty of care to the patient not their own values

Well said! I don't know who those senior doctors were, but I suspect the seminar would've been a far less pleasant experience for them had I been attending to hear such paternalism on display. Consent is the expression of free will. Even God doesn't get to interfere with that!
