Sara & John, here’s what is is interesting, you understand so much about this case but neither of you appear to hold an MBBS/BMBS/MChB between you. Have you actually ever taken responsibility for someone’s life in your hands? Let alone 6 wards worth? https://twitter.com/sarasiobhan/status/1030345610866712576 …

Medics ‘relish’, as u derogatorily describe it, in this judgement, not as a victory but as a judicial acknowledgment of our humanity & the fact that when one engages in a truly human endeavour (the care of another being perhaps the most important kind), there can be mistakes.

The tragic events rehearsed in this case, could happen to any of us, anywhere, anytime. John, if you trust your clinical followers then ask them the question & trust their response. This tragic case hits close to home to us as medics, as anyone of us could have been Dr

Oh, Steve. Another 'there but the for the grace of God go I' argument? Really? You may want to come back & read this letter when you're done with the tweets, because I'm guessing you missed it among the earlier
#BawaGarba offerings. Now... where to begin?https://twitter.com/c7rky/status/1029303542685814789?s=21 …John Clarke added,

Let's start with your point about trusting my clinical followers. Do you really think they all follow me because I agree with them all the time, or take what they say at face value? Trust doesn't really play a part for me now. This has become my take on ithttps://twitter.com/c7rky/status/950691530037252097?s=21 …

Once I've been through that, whoever I happen to find myself agreeing with is a matter of chance. And luckily for
@sarasiobhan & I, in this instance our opinion carries equal weight to yours, despite our lack of clinical qualifications to justify our interest to your satisfaction1 reply 0 retweets 1 like -
Because this is now about public confidence in the medical profession and all 3 of us are just members of the public in that respect. The interest from Sara, I and many others merely means we're better informed than most. Indeed, it has been enlightening - on oh so many levels.

This judgement seems to have as much to do with the legal precedent of courts intervening to overrule decisions of tribunals such as MPTS, as it did to do with
#BawaGarba from what I've read of it. It certainly changes nothing about her GNM conviction.1 reply 0 retweets 1 like -
Meaning MPTS's assertion (via their sanction) that public confidence is unaffected by allowing her to practise as a doctor with a GNM conviction is now reinstated, so is rightfully coming under fresh public scrutiny. And it's not standing up too well to it, from where I sit.

Which should perhaps come as no surprise considering even the GMC believed she should be struck off to avoid harming public confidence in the medical profession and the High Court - who did re-examine the trial evidence - agreed with the GMC.

And to finish; my son has pica. A condition which has potential to be fatal in an instant, if you're unlucky. Whilst typing all this, I've been watching him on the monitor which I carry around everywhere with me during the times I'm not with him in person.

One slip. One momentary lapse of attention and it could be the one I spend the rest of my life regretting. So no, I'm not a doctor, but yes, I do actually know how it feels to take responsibility for somebody else's life in my hands. Every. Single. Day. Thanks for asking.
