Is that ‘failure’ deliberate, to cause harm? Or in itself due to inexperience and limited knowledge? The Dunning-Kruger effect, along with lack of awareness of importance of features or effects. That’s exactly why juniors must be appropriately supervised

Hypothetical: if I saw a child with grossly abnormal blood results who looked clinically stable/improving and where no other team concerns were raised & then crash called to resus for a child with a severe asthma attack which took two hours away from CAU, is that negligent?
-
I guess it would depend on what that infamous reasonable body of medical opinion felt about the care you provided to, and management plan you left in place for child A, before leaving to attend child B? But once deemed reasonable, you can't be in 2 places at once!
-
Practically, in that situation, you're hugely reliant on the rest of the team. I think I've been very lucky that I've worked with some excellent colleagues. But I think that's where the swiss cheese model comes in: reliant on all those other factors to provide care

Paediatrics is an 8 year training pathway btw. So not weeks/months off being a consultant
-
Exactly- but to a lay-person, depending on who explaining, it might seem she’d done a lot already being >1/2 way! Dangers of ill-informed and sensationalising press
-
I would be such a lay person, tho I'm doing my best to avoid being ill informed - hence my questions. But I'm conscious that we're *all* ill informed without a transcript, unless we were in court. Something compelling got her convicted. I'm just trying to figure out what it was
-
That will come out in the appeals. It would be interesting wresting to read the summing up transcripts, and the judges legal direction to the jury. Questions also about qualified ty of BG’s counsel, though that is just conjecture and hearsay. Not had opportunity to read in full

‘Elsewhere’ is wide universe- variable insight in to the world of what happens in that particular realm. ‘Close to’ could mean> half-way, or <1yr from CCT(Certificate of Completion if Training- minimum pre-requisite to apply for substantive consultant post in UK). still pre-CCT
