I would hope that all reasonable people, including registered doctors, would find the 'reprehensible' conduct of gross negligence manslaughter totally unacceptable.

Some doctors have indicated that a jury of peers for a doctor must be doctors, because the reasonable person on the street simply isn’t qualified to make that call.

yes, I think this is complete rubbish personally. The components of bad care, e.g. not referring onto a specialist, not doing any management, will be obvious whatever the case, surely?

The danger is that the medical profession can stonewall legitimate claims simply by saying 'you don't understand this'. That is wrong.

And the public will readily accept staff shortages affecting certain things relating to care - waiting longer than they should, minor errors that can be corrected, even some that can’t , but major harm and death perhaps not so much.

There is a timeframe where harm could be accepted by those harmed and bereaved, and it’s a very small window.

So true. There's a period where we're willing to forgive. A very small window, as you say. The choice between candour and cover up in that brief period dictates which of 2 very different paths events will follow from that point onwards.

I still remember rolling my eyes at my mother in law when she suggested that the hospital staff would "start closing ranks". I need to apologise in person if she ever gets the courage to visit the UK again. She used to come over for extended stays every 6 months...
