That's an interesting list - esp considering there appears to be complete non-compliance with those guidelines in this case. Have they any weight? Is it like GMC guidelines which one is obliged to account for?

They don’t carry much weight. I know of one Consultant who had a warning put onto his GMC registration because his flight back from USA was cancelled and he couldn’t get back to be on call. But they are toothless Guidelines...

Can't say I'm surprised. All professional guidelines are legally unenforceable, so if the professionally body doesn't enforce them, (as is sadly common), then nobody else can.

No-one enforces guidelines They're guidelines, not laws nor regulationspic.twitter.com/gUqGBfyNTp

I realise that now of course. But when you dress guidelines up as containing items which represent 'an overriding duty or principle', we public are fooled into thinking it means something. It doesn't. It's only when we realise GMC are toothless that we take the last option: courtpic.twitter.com/RGTYtCiEdE

I've not trawled through every GMC guideline, I confess. But that was just the first example a search threw up. I knew to look it up because it also appears in a guideline I have had cause to study - consent. Maybe I should check to see if it's the same in all of them?pic.twitter.com/k6V5nB3k4E

I looked at a few of these btw doc. Those definitions of 'must' & 'should' are omitted from the introductions of most other guidelines, yet the use of the terminology persists - without any explanation as to how it differs by lacking that clarification.
