"Professor Patrick Pullicino said it was commonplace for doctors to ‘diagnose’ the impending death of their patients – and then put them out of their ‘perceived misery'" > Wow.

Does he have evidence? Its quite an inflammatory thing to say and we need to be careful and considered with this issue, lest we turn all palliative care doctors into monsters and condemn some people to suffer due to unsubstantiated fear.

I note he is catholic and appears to have quite strong religious views. I wonder if this is a bias we should have in mind when considering his comments:http://www.catholicherald.co.uk/news/2013/03/22/it-is-important-to-declare-yourself/ …

@ShaunLintern just because of his religion you are saying his comments can't be relied upon the Liverpool care pathway review many families submitted evidence to DOH loved ones were dehydrated starved to death on LCP overdosed with opiate drugs he's got evidence5 replies 3 retweets 6 likes -

A balanced and considered view is obviously vital Shaun as you always do take. Here's the BUT LCP was found against by Baroness Neuberger who is Jewish. Bishop James is CofE Prof Pullciano is Catholic Don't think religion is relevant in this instance.

Only one has linked their religion to this issue. The rest have done evidence based work. When he does that I'll listen. Until then we should all keep in mind his bias and that he's just 1 person mouthing off to the Mail about a specialty he doesnt even work in.

I don't know what editorial restrictions Shaun may have to work with, but to be fair, they didn't stop him exposing Mid Staffs in the past and he did a great job on telling our sorry tale whilst at HSJ.https://twitter.com/ShaunLintern/status/600735704101031936 …
