Working for NYC subway pays well. Really well. From NYT: Average compensation for subway worker: $170k. Average for subway manager (2500 of them): $280k. http://ow.ly/ZY7M30gFnK1 pic.twitter.com/UdorS8iE0Z

For NYC cost of living that’s not as much as it seems

Let’s not forget the lifetime pensions after 20 or so years of work. But hey, let’s get worked up about the eliminating the SALT deductions because public spending is done so well.

I was in NYC for first time this summer. I found the staff incredibly rude & unhelpful. You walked through wrong gate & want to immediately cross over to the right one? Have to pay again.

People making 170-280k do not pay anything approaching 60% taxes even in NYC. Their total combined tax rate is probably closer to 30%.

No problem, also bear in mind that all taxes are bracketed so you only pay the tax rate on income that falls in the range of the bracket. For someone to have an average federal tax rate somewhat equal to the highest bracket, 39.6%, requires an income of millions per year.

Ridiculous and they need more money to run the city. Overpayment in govt jobs is going to bankrupt every big city, and then the Federal govt. it has to stop.

This is undergirds the reasoning by those of us in other states that could care less about the SALT deduction being eliminated. We see ridiculous spending, unending programs, protection for illegals, etc. NYC teacher salaries are considerably less.Schools & subway are a disgrace.
