To everyone disagreeing: No, I did not say '13 shutdown helped GOP. Just that it self-evidently did not cause GOP to lose Senate in '14.

@ByronYork Important point: the shutdown really only mattered inside the Beltway, especially with the media; flyover country was unaffected

@ByronYork Why was it when Reagan vetoed legislation it was POTUS "shutting down the government" but with Dem presidents it's Congress? ;-)

@ByronYork for once it might be nice to see the GOP stand for something. Leading from in front, novel idea I know, might be a winner.

@ByronYork Would it be fair to say the Obamacare rollout overwhelmed any bad feelings from the partial shutdown?

@ByronYork But it self-evidently was stupid and cost GOP dearly. Luckily, enough time to recover. http://content.gallup.com/origin/gallupinc/GallupSpaces/Production/Cms/POLL/lnqbxnkmreiyjx1qplct0a.png …

@trippfunderburk @ByronYork That chart doesn't say anything about how people actually voter, though. Did it mobilize some voters? Probably

@HarmonBrew @ByronYork The shutdown mobilized the American population to reduce the GOP approval rates by 10%. So, yes, it mobilized voters.

@ByronYork It probably mobilized some voters, no? Just as Obama & Dems work to mobilize with negative messages. (see Ferguson, Trayvon)

@ByronYork It rallied the base, and the Democrats overplayed their hand in their eagerness to be petty thugs. A net positive for the GOP.

@ByronYork only because Dems made even bigger mistakes - IRS scandal, Benghazi, and of course Obamacare.
