@StevenJDuffield @JohnJHarwood @ByronYork trivia! Grassley contemplated members/aides carrying over employer contribs as originally drafted.
@brianbeutler So Congress is much like business deciding to save money on benefits since employees can buy coverage on exchanges...

@ByronYork so now my question….? -
@brianbeutler And individual lawmakers could give raises to staff who aren't at upper pay limit... -
@ByronYork if aides are kept whole, I don't care where they get their health care. But that's not where we are. Your idea isn't on offer. -
@brianbeutler Maybe I'm wrong, but I think individual lawmakers could pay aides more, except ones at top, who wouldn't get subsidies anyway. - 1 more reply

@ByronYork not at all. Nothing in PPACA suggests Congress intended to reduce member and aide compensation. -
@brianbeutler But entirely reasonable for Congress as employer, no? Certainly for highly-paid staff who can now buy affordable coverage... -
@ByronYork I don't care where members or aides get their health care. But cutting aide compensation to spite Dems for passing ACA is cruel. -
@brianbeutler@ByronYork aides should walk out!
