The #SpottedLanternfly, an invasive and very destructive insect from Asia, could reach #Ohio as soon as this spring.
The insect was found about 15 miles from Ohio's eastern border, according to @PAAgriculturehttp://bit.ly/3arMRcE
One thing that didn't make it into this story is this: Pennsylvania has an aggressive permitting program to prevent the spread of the insect. Transport vehicles are issued permits.
However, the insects were found at/near two @nscorp RR sites in western Penn.
"The department is working with all modes of transport, including rail, ports and airports. The permits are specifically for vehicular travel on the roads," according to @PAAgriculture
Statistically speaking, it's already there. The closest observation is likely not the closest insect.

I did hear from a reader after the story was posted. She believes she saw a #SpottedLanternfly in Columbus in the fall. She said she reached out to @OhioDeptofAg and no one responded to her.
