Which zinnia attracts the most butterflies? Lilliput zinnias attracted more than twice as many butterflies as State Fair, Pinwheel & Oklahoma cultivars during a university study.

We saw some (millions of) monarchs today. Leading an trip to their overwintering migration site in the mountains of Mexico, an absolutely perfect day up here at 10,000ft.

Can't wait for Coneflowers! These carefree blooms not only bring in butterflies -- they're beautiful, super easy to grow and multiply year after year.

Strange but True! Butterflies can see the color red but bees can't. (Bees still visit red flowers because they can see ultraviolet patterns on them that are invisible to humans.)

Gardens = habitat Without habitat, there's no wildlife -- it's that simple. Cheers to everyone who creates places pollinators and wildlife can thrive!

Difficult doesn't mean impossible. It takes migrating monarchs up to 2 months to reach Mexico.

Let’s scale up butterfly habitat - Audubon International has a grant to provide FREE native, regionally-appropriate, seed for pollinator plantings on golf courses across the West.

Monarchs aren't just slow on Mondays! They only flap their wings 300 to 720 times a minute. (Most butterflies move much faster.)

Monarch or Viceroy? Viceroys are usually smaller than monarchs (but not always.) Just look for the "smile" on their wings and you'll know for sure — it's the Viceroy trying to fool you. (This one's on the right.)

3 Reasons Native New England Asters are amazing! 1) Pollinators love them 2) They're a host plant for pearl crescent butterflies (top right) 3) Easy to grow and blend beautifully with other flowers.

Bees pollinate approximately one-third of the food that we eat. Most of it is the foods that we enjoy consuming: fruits, nuts, berries and vegetables.

Pollinator gardens are no-stress zones. Who couldn't use a little (or a lot) more of that?

Drunk butterflies? Red-spotted purples and painted ladies are among the butterfly species that are fans of fermented fruit & seem to get tipsy after feeding on it (some are attracted to wine and beer as well!)

Viceroy butterflies got their name because they look like Monarch and Queen butterflies but are smaller. So they were given a lower rank.

Make this symbol using non-toxic, biodegradable materials in a temporary location to help draw attention to the ecological catastrophe that we're causing. Make it for the animals, the plants, the bugs. Make it for your kids. Make it to mourn, to release, to re-invigorate.

Sleeping Beauty! Fritillary butterflies spend the winter as caterpillars and don't wake up until violets (their host plant) begin to bloom.
