I told him that it was nonsense, but he was super confident about it and said he did the math and I would be to stupid to understand. He also compared it to the Monty Hall problem. Can some math experts please tell me that he's wrong. @Joshua_Gutman

He also was aware of the argument that despite having a slightly better mulligan you still put a useless card into your deck, so he uses e.g. Priest or Shaman quests which sometimes have some value lategame

it's still a 30 card deck after the mulligan though. He'll have the same probability to draw any particular card plus one really bad draw in the quest. It's nonsense math.

You don't need a math genius to understand that it's better to have a chance at having a good card in hand and deciding not to mulligan it than always having a bad card that you always mulligan. Either he's trolling or any attempt at explaining this to him is futile.
