Hey, how does deterrence work when an AI holds the trigger? Can you deter an AI? Will the AI understand de-escalatory signals? CC

Maybe it increases deterrence because it means if you launch a nuke we will autostrike you back, so deterrence is literally automatic and doesn’t rely on the politics of the time? Is that the theory?
