I would only add that the complexity of those systems IS the source of the complexity of the mind.

got big brains because once you start using fire on land you have ecological responsibilities. We learned bird language to read whole forest. Then we discovered that if you press on your eyeballs you make cool patterns leading to cell phones that “tweet” rather then notice birds.

Love to make a language up so I can keep track of how many days since the last snowfall. Love to make art cuz I’m bored that ends up communicating what it was intended to communicate. Then teach my friends how I drew it.

See I think that stuff is part of ecosystems. We make pale shades now.

Sometimes I drink reindeer piss or eat these funny mushrooms. I leave the interior experience and travel down through the subconscious into an eternal source. Hey, I think that Tree is talking to me?

Learning which trees and bushes grow near each other. Carrying around handfuls to show to everyone and accidentally dropping them and stepping on them. Remembering where that happened. Weird to have such a long memory but there it is... a squished berry became a bushel of them.

Modern humans have far less memory then the other great apes especially for remembering object locations and sequences.

Well, we did get better at writing stuff down and making it accessible.

Orality is far surperior tbh. Much better to have memorized data because it actually informs behavior. Vedic math is memorized. Europeans lost all of their Greek math and wrote down things because they lost memorization techniques. Same with navigation and ecosystem stories.
