The Cold War nuke scares, the violent securing of compact energy reserves, the digital retreat, and the recent flood of investment money in astroid mining has distorted our idea of wether or not we need a habitable planet. 5/?

12 this also means we can plant a lot and cut most of them back after a few years and the trees get bigger.

village homes in Davis is a good case study for how parts of it could look in less-dense zones.

imagine siena but with chesnut-lined streets, thermal solar panels, sewage being moved through living machines and into low land forests, permaculture applied to this pattern.

if keyline principles were applied to urban design, would get something very similar to Siena Italy, development on hills &ridges, roads move water, Piazzas in the keypoints for water collection under, later hydrating valleys &country side for soil &ag

"Nuts make an excellent staple crop. They grow year after year, sequestering carbon, building soil,& offering resilience in the face of erratic weather...a mature walnut orchard can produce as much as 6,000 pounds/acre vs world avg of roughly 2,700 pounds/acre of grain"

So take away that light and heat and you are not solving climate change. It’s like solving a rotting food problem in your fridge by buying less groceries. 7/?

A lot of that light and heat was -used- by the geobiosphere. It moved air, grew forests, ran human cultures. We get to kind of ignore that because our lifeline is long and often involves deep fossil sunlight for now. 5/?

Let’s take plans to reverse albedo the approach looks at one problem and generates an absurd solution. Yes the greenhouse effect is when more heat is held then released. Lowering the amount of light coming in would exert some change over the balance. But then what? 3/?

Guess what? We don’t have to geoengineer in order to effect large scale change in the climate. But we do have to change agricultural and other systems of land use.

  19. So intense realization over here at Build Soil. Our 8000 chestnuts in buckets are already sprouting. 1-2 months earlier then expected. Going for a far more seat-of-the-pants approach then we expected.
