Or maybe they realize that this will not actually solve the housing crisis but will create great public harm. Have you considered that there is reasonable opposition from local elected officials who know their cities well and have valid reasons? LA in particular would be harmed.

Have you considered there's strong support from local elected officials: like the mayors of SF, Oakland, San Jose, Stockton, Sacramento, Emeryville, and Half Moon Bay. Presumably they're also well versed in their respective city's problems and needs.

The Bay Area & the Greater LA area have different histories, different needs. I am happy to explain why there is such unanimous & vociferous opposition. I'll even take the time to give a historical tour & explain these nuances. I'm even happy to offer legislative alternatives.

But I think it is an enormous mistake to simply dismiss all those who oppose as simply out of touch with modern realities (or immoral, racist, NIMBYs as Senator Wiener frequently posits). It's easy to throw out pejoratives, it's harder to actually understand the opposition.
