You should be listening to this podcast. One of the main reasons why we are in this political position is bc our leaders are not holding anyone accountable. This Thursday’s episode, I speak openly & in depth about being raped in the Border Patrol academy & how it destroyed me.

Now would be a great time for an expert on Border Patrol rape culture to write an op-Ed explaining how the Border Patrol keeps on sexually harassing/assaulting w/out accountability. I have written that piece, & yet cannot get it published. If anyone’s interested-dm me.

I love how in the opening paragraphs states that Port Isabel ICE was in compliance w/providing medical care and ends the same paragraph with the fact that they do not have enough healthcare workers to tend to detainees needs. #FireCuffari

A Three Points Station agent encountered an injured Mexican citizen near Osobavi Peak, deep in the Baboquivari Mts. The 24-year-old was unable to walk, so a certified EMT agent selflessly carried him down the mountain and treated his lower leg injuries. #SavingLives

This is sick, and sadly not at all surprising. As former Border Patrol agent will attest, CBP's culture of racism and toxic masculinity breeds sexual predators who often get away with their despicable behavior, and in this case, are even rewarded for it.

Please read this thread and feel gratitude this brave woman not only made it out alive, but also for the fact her courageous motivation to disclose the truth helps us all better understand what happens via the USBP. Her 2022 book "Against the Wall" is an important read.

🧵 8 years ago this week, I took my life. I was suffering from severe PTSD from the brutal racist policies I had chosen to enforce foolishly believing in the lies the Border Patrol had poured into my head. I was raped in the academy, they covered it up & said I should be tough

It’s not selfless when you create the system that pushed him out there instead of having an asylum system. It’s actually the least you could do. It’s also not selfless when it’s your job and you video yourself so you can then claim to be a hero.

10) management warns you that the agent will probably lose their job and question you as to why you would want to hurt their career. The Border Patrol’s new suicide prevention program is not concerned with helping agents. It is the bed they have made.

9) Unfortunately, will continue to see more agent suicides bc they will not admit this. I recently spoke with a steward. They stated that the new suicide prevention program the agency released is a joke. If you come forward with concern about someone,

8) I am not sorry for going through all of that. It allowed me to learn the systems of the agency so that I may tell their secrets today. THIS is why so my any agents kill themselves. Being an oppressive person, enforcing laws that you know are killing people, kills you.

7) So, I understood that I had to go and listen to those that I had traumatized. Listen without the prejudice and racist justifications I used to employ. And that is what has saved my life. It is some of the most difficult work I have done, but it is why I am here today. 💋❤️

6) The trauma I forced on others -separating families, arresting asylum seekers, kettling migrants into the dangerous mountains and deserts I worked in to only find body after body after body-I did that! I had become the abuser after being abused.

5) So, I took my life. I say I took my life even though I survived because I realized that I gad to make a drastic change if I was to survive. I realized that my pain bc was not just about my personal trauma, but about the trauma I had fished out to others as an agent.

4) But as the book says, the body keeps the score. My PTSD and mental health had deteriorated to the point that I hated myself although I did not know why. Flashbacks, frozen in thoughts, painful memories.

3) They covered that up too. After resigning in protest, stating on my exit forms that the Border Patrol was immoral and unethical and I could no longer wear the uniform, I tried to put it all behind me and forget about it.

2) enough as an agent to get past it. It was the price I had to pay to wear the green uniform. They ran me over in the parking lot of my station & told me to keep my mouth shut about it. They covered that up too. Then they shot at me and told me next time, they wouldn’t miss.

Still thinking about how a federal minimum wage hasn’t been raised in like 14 years and Ted Cruz and Joe Manchin are busy working on gas stove protection bills. Our politicians are way too comfortable.

PLEASE. THINK about this. This that is happening *now* -- in our time, on our watch. We will be asked what we did to stop these atrocities. We cannot say we did not know. Thank you for what *you* do to stop this horror!

The Border Patrol, CBP & ICE separates families, kettles migrants to the most dangerous terrain & to their deaths, sterilizes women w/out their permission, holds people in detention w/out a conviction of anything, has secret investigations w/zero oversight. Think about that.

Border Patrol hides their sexual assaults/harassments by agents in the secret investigations of OPR & . Victims are paid off but never get to see the investigation, know which former agent investigated it or know what actions were taken against their abuser.

8) This one because republicans, authoritarians, and Trumpers are using borders and migrants to destabilize our government. The and right wing media support this. They create and fan the flames.

5) I’m going to add this book because I believe our brutal border policies are extensions of institutions such as slavery, Jim Crow…etc. I believe these stories will help in getting justice for migrants.

3) This is more of an academic read. Very important to understand the actual history of the Border Patrol which was never taught to me as an agent. It is important for me as a former agent to speak only the truth. I see myself as an educator.

2) This book causes my white, former agent ass to squirm a bit. That means I have some security difficulties to overcome. I recognize that is based in my racism, my privilege & my past as an agent. There is still much I agree with & learned from in this book.
