I have been curious what the tipping point will be for to break with Trump. I have wrongly thought we were at that point many times before so today I am skeptical we are there now but I really don’t know what line needs to be crossed because we have crossed so many.
The protests in Ottawa Canada 🇨🇦 and the Ambassador Bridge are less and less about Vaccines and more and more about political extremism and desires to disrupt the Canadian government and economy (done with external radical influences and money)

I am not a lawyer. I no longer work in US Government. I do not speak for anyone but myself but based on my experience if you are not from Canada and you go there to cause mischief and are arrested you should expect a fairly significant punishment-Especially during this moment.
The big story out of Ottawa today is how the average citizen fed up with what has been happening in their city took to the streets and peacefully exerted themselves. I am sure there will be more on this tomorrow but for now…wow!

When we look back on the causes of the blockade at the Ambassador bridge (hopefully soon) it will be clear this wouldn’t have gained so much traction without the support from right wing media and radicalized politicians.

I have had a lot of conversations today with Canadians and it is abundantly clear has done more damage to the Canada US relationship than any other single person.
As the former US Ambassador to Canada let me clarify. Prior to puting hostile and harmful tariffs on Canadian steel & aluminum-more than 99% of all trade with Canada was tariff free. We can now go back to what trade was before Trump's horribly wrong tariff tax

To my American friends I personally don’t recommend international travel including Canada during this #COVID19 crisis. While Canadians don’t specifically prohibit US citizens we should be respectful of them during this time.
Canada US relations used to be mainly about solving technical issues. Today Canada is unfortunately experiencing radical US politicians involving themselves in Canadian domestic issues. Trump and his followers are a threat not just to the US but to all democracies.

As Ambassador I worked 24 hours a day for 3 years to enhance our relationship with our best friend Canada. When I left it was the best relationship the USA had in the world. The President is casually throwing Canada under the bus and this is just wrong.

If we import ANY oil I prefer from Canada over any others (which is more than any other country) but I prefer we reduce dependence on fossil fuels and not have to import ANY at all. If we invest in new energy infrastructure I prefer non fossil fuel investments (in Canada and USA)

This is not a joke. As the former US Ambassador to Canada I am calling on the US to stop tariffs on Canadian steel and aluminum before it further jeopardizes our relationship. They and their steel/aluminum are not a national security risk. We are risking too much for too little.
Several US Generals told me on many occasions that if they were ever stuck in a foxhole they would want a Canadian by their side.

We have had difficult days Loss of life to a virus & many jobs too. Our neighbor Canada has been impacted as well but they also had additional moments of pain. A mass shooting, a loss of Canadian service members in a copter crash and today a loss of a young pilot.Thinking of you

Mass shootings also take place outside the USA. Canada has rarely experienced such horrific crimes but this week they had the worst of such events in a mass shooting in Nova Scotia. Those of us who know the pain first hand should extend words to comfort our friend and neighbor.
