That doesn't ring true. If you're a parent, you know that sense of power—thence responsibility!—starts out before the child is even born. Parents have their sons circumcised bc they believe it's in their sons' best interest, be it for health, social or cultural motives. \1
Infant circumcision is a rite of passage for parents. It proves to them that they are now powerful adults like their own parents.
