Times Square, Prospect Park West, Diversity Plaza, Citi Bike, the 14th Street Busway... some of NYC's most "controversial" projects are now its most popular. One would think there's a lesson to be learned here and that the pace of installation of such projects would accelerate.

Not overstating it at all. I've been part of the fight against "bikelash" for year. But what I have seen is that once things are implemented, opposition dwindles. Doesn't mean it goes away completely or can't backfire, of course.
