“New York is increasingly unaffordable” and “Let’s charge a family of four $10 to go for a walk” are mutually exclusive ideas.

Let’s not entertain any thoughts of charging people on foot to access public space.

This right here is what he's always wanted. A person who lives in a multi-million-dollar home in the West Village can't stomach the idea of losing his free use of limited public space to store his car. This attitude from the political class will be the death of mobility in NYC.

Brooklynites, rejoice! Now that the L train isn't shutting down there's no need for transit improvements.

Regardless of whether the L tunnel closes or not, smart transportation plans that have been developed w community and pols should still go into effect, including the transit way on 14th Street elevators and station circulation upgrades.

Official statement puts it best: "Even without a complete L Train shutdown, New York City still has a chronic congestion problem and a shameful track record of allocating too much space to private cars."

Forget the L train shutdown. Even in a world where the tunnels weren't crumbling, the status quo is the crisis.

As much as I get why it happened this way, this has always been the risk with tying improvements to the bus and bike lane network to the L train shutdown. The mayor doesn't see these things as good/necessary on their own merits.

"Reclaiming space from cars and using that space more efficiently for buses, bikes and scooters—that needs to happen regardless of how the L train work takes place."

I doubt he’d take this tone with a program for wealthier New Yorkers.

Trump does this a lot. Says some random person told him something. I think calls it a “Sir” story.
