This settlement is not only a victory for workers who were misclassified by Handy Technologies, Inc., but also a warning to other companies that engage in similar unlawful behavior. This behavior by corporations will not be tolerated.

After weeks of emotional testimony and three days of deliberation, a San Francisco jury unanimously found Bill Gene Hobbs guilty of eight misdemeanor counts of battery, sexual battery and assault and one felony count of false imprisonment.

The jury’s verdict delivers justice for all of the women that were victimized by Hobbs. He will now face consequences for his unacceptable behavior, and brazen harassment of women throughout San Francisco. I am grateful to the courageous women who came forward.

Banko Brown’s death has deeply impacted me & our city. I join his friends, family, & community in grieving him & searching for ways to address the systemic issues that led us to where we are today, with one young man Black man dead & another potentially looking at life in prison.

This case reminds us just how much we can protect public safety by working together. The successful operation in this case took vast quantities of ammunition and explosives off the streets making our community safer.

Black San Franciscans are more than 5x likely to die from drug overdose. This is unacceptable. We must have wholistic solutions for those addicted. We have to be more thoughtful in our criminal justice system to make sure users are routed through proper drug treatment programs.

Prosecuting domestic violence criminal threats cases creates a critical opportunity to intervene in dangerous situations before they escalate. I hope the survivor in this case is able to get the help & resources she needs to recover while Cano-Flores is held accountable.

I'm thankful no one was hurt as a result of Sanchez’s dangerous behavior. Recklessly discharging his weapon put lives in danger & undermined the public’s trust in law enforcement. This sends a message that law enforcement officers who violate the law will be held accountable.

The killing of Banko Brown was a tragedy & my heart breaks for his friends & family. After careful review, we are not pursuing murder charges at this time because of credible evidence of reasonable self-defense. It is my duty to follow the law & evidence wherever it may lead.

The criminal justice system needs to recognize that drug dealing is a serious crime. Communities are under siege by rampant, open-air drug dealing and we must do everything we can to protect public safety and ensure that there are consequences for suspected drug dealers.
