    The British Geological Survey has published new insights into ground motion through combined analysis of geological, environmental and InSAR data at a geo-energy research site. Read more:

  13. BGS has a long history of assisting relief efforts by providing satellite maps, data and interpretation to those affected by disasters, helping to identify hazardous areas to avoid.

    Shoring up damaged buildings using wooden poles. This damage was due to the M7.8, Gorkha earthquake, Nepal, 2015. The dirt street takes up the centre of the image, with buildings to both sides. The buildings are made of brick and a lot of the windows are missing. A lone man stands in the mid-ground. The sky above is a very light blue.

  15. "It looks like a regular observatory, but it's not looking at the stars." Why does our Space Geodesy Facility (SGF) shoot lasers into the sky? Find out in this excellent video by , who visited the Herstmonceux site.

    A bright green laser beam shoots from the roof of the facility, which you can just make out in shadow. The sky is dark and you can see stars in the distance, as well as some wispy clouds.

  21. In today's , writes about the Holbeck Hall Hotel landslide, which caught the nation's attention in 1993. Luckily, no one was hurt in the event. Cath outlines how it happened & now helps to demonstrate landslide processes.
