Just been reminded why I never use the Bristol-Bath Railway Path to commute. The crowning glory was watching some thug on foot barge the rider ahead of me to the ground in an unprovoked attack

  3. Nice to think there might be something interesting going on in Bristol for them to work on but, sadly, at the moment we could not be confident of that.

One of the bridges should be devoted to walking, cycling and busses/emergency vehicles. The other for everything else. Traffic-light controlled crossroads at either end.

Great idea or maybe a parallel cycling and walking bridge?

Today a group of us went door to door to ask neighbours to support traffic calming measures. If we can do one thing to help the environment, reducing car use is an excellent one

Whether is or is not widened does not affect a bus land grab. Constant vigilance and adherence to sustainable transport principles (walking, cycling, public transport, private cars in that order) will keep it safe.

15mph e-scooters in urban areas: “speeds can be limited by GPS tracking.” 150mph cars in urban areas: fine, all fine.

No room for cycles in the center of Bristol, even on the rare bits of segregated infrastructure. ☹️

People are fighting to keep the as a 3m wide shared path designed to cope with 540 people per hour, now at 1800 per hour, and eScooters about to become legal. Need segregation in urban areas. 2-3m footpath, barrier, 3-4.5m cycle path.

Cities: "Let's implement Low Traffic Neighbourhoods!" Able bodied car drivers:"What about the disabled?" Cities: "Full access maintained, easy for blue badge holders to park, better mobility scooter friendly footpaths, crossings, and junctions." ABCD: "NO! You don't understand!"

Instead these schemes showcase "traffic evaporation". Yes, some spots see worse queuing. And that does sometimes need addressing with a tweak to schemes. But overall motor traffic volumes are reduced. And therefore pollution. And climate changing emissions. Etc.

When Max van den Berg proposed a 1977 plan that made the centre of Groningen virtually impenetrable by automobile, his party was the subject of outrage, protests and death threats. Now not a single resident misses the days when cars choked their streets.

Is this other regular users experience? Unplanned closures can be a spur to pedestrianisation, cycle routes etc. Highways Authorities always say if you close a road the sky falls in, but it doesn't.

Let's treat the offer to consider opening a narrow section of road at face value and see what the response is.

I have asked the engineers to see if it is possible. I will let you know when I hear back from them.
