Dude, this is common knowledge. What is your point?

It was a really lame comment. There's nothing mysterious about incels or some huge puzzle to crack. They have unhealthy views of sex and relationships and devolved into a toxic community instead of emotional growth. No talk of sexual competition necessary.
-
I think we can all agree that they have unhealthy views of sex and relationships. The question is why.
-
Feminism and gender studies already has that covered. Aggrieved entitlement captures the incel culture to a "T"
-
Yes, we know that they feel aggrieved. Why does involuntary celibacy cause such a feeling and why does it often translate to violence and even suicidal violence? What kind of social program or psychological support could be effective here? We need more than just platitudes.
-
Yes, that part is captured by the "entitlement" part. It's an outcome of not getting what they think they're deserved by virtue of being male and white. Michael Kimmel covers the concept herehttps://books.google.com/books?hl=en&lr=&id=7WVGDgAAQBAJ&oi=fnd&pg=PT7&ots=zcErrk8wsQ&sig=nhqdXm1NLPM0TlYgHdSuQbXr9xw#v=onepage&q&f=false …
-
I read the review. “White men, he claims, have held the upper hand for so long that equalizing the playing field results in explosive rage” Which white men have held the upper hand? The miners? The factory workers? The binmen? Who is Kimmel talking about?
-
Yes. Miners, factory workers, and garbage men have privilege and social advantages from their whiteness and maleness. It doesn't fully counteract class disparities but benefits them compared to other races/genders at similar levels
-
So what privilege is this white miner hanging on to, the loss of which is making him so angry? Keeping his job at the mine?

As for defensive rhetoric, this point actually broadens the discussionhttps://twitter.com/subbeck/status/988800910339035136?s=21 …
-
Seriously, spare me this broadening of the discussion.
-
I'd broaden it further to include India and China, where the governments are rightly very concerned about the 70m excess men in their societies. They know it leads to misery... and violence.https://www.washingtonpost.com/graphics/2018/world/too-many-men/?utm_term=.bcdd51879614 …

Current gender theory is doing just fine without his help. The research he refers to, in case you hadn’t noticed the irony, is already there
-
I didn't any specific references (I may have missed it) Do you gender study research? Or research into intrasexual competition? I don't think there is any overlap between the 2, hence the need to go beyond gender studies.
-
I’m an anthropologist. I do it all.
-
Great! So what was your issue with broadening the discussion beyond gender studies and into the proper behavioural sciences?
