I've tried to use OWL a couple of times, but found the experience so difficult that I have never been able to actually complete even a toy model. Not sure what other formats or tools are out there that are easier. And I have a use case. Several, actually. Can't get there.

we tried vocbench3 earlier in the year and found it to be lovely and easy to use.
@p_w has a few suggestions I imagine. These people have a very simple (takes 30sec to learn) tool: http://semantechs.co.uk/ this can be useful just for visualising: https://graphs.grevian.org/graph2 replies 0 retweets 1 like -

Looked at vocbench docs, first screen shot has the word "lexicalizations" over one section. That's a huge red flag that this is a tool built by people suffering from the curse of expertise. Which has been my experience across the board.

I hear that. A woman in my team used it, and she'd barely used excel, let alone anything else. But ok, so it isn't easy everywhere to do it yourself because of the tooling. How about the reuse aspect discussed above, what are the blockers there?

I wish there wasn't "barely used excel" still going on. How do people escape modern tools for so long?

I don't want to get into knocking people down, I adore this person. Her jobs to date had been people jobs, caring for people jobs where computers really are of no consequence. I kind of like that this is still possible. In any case, she was brilliant at info management.

Yeah i get really frustrated at rhe low level of basic tech skills in public service, combined with the lack od opportunities (or even curiosity) on acquiring them. I wouldn't mind if they didn't have digital roles.

Just as I think we can improve digital skills in gov, I think there is SO much to be learned from people whose focus is people, not tech. For me, her focus never wavered from the user need, and that was invaluable.

I dont understand why ppl see it as tech *or* human. Why not both? Solving user needs can get faster horses & user need of one group can cause user issues for another group (hello history). Can I gently suggest we need to focus on people *&* tech *&* socio-political-tech systems
