My biggest complaint with these laws is they don't go far enough by making the software open source so we can ACTUALLY repair the devices.

I see your point, but from my viewpoint this falls outside OSI's focus on open source software and open source software licensing. I think some version of the Unix philosophy to do one thing and do it well comes into play here.

I personally could see it either way. OSI did provide feedback to the FCC when they proposed requiring wifi radios and router software, most of which has substantial amounts of open source software, to be locked down.

One thing I definitely would not want to see is OSI having tentacles reaching into everything, such as the Linux Foundation does.
