You're right of course but I've often thought the problems of arrogance and aggressive behaviour on the kernel dev lists are largely as a result of this naming issue. 8/10 supercomputers run Linux (for example). SFW? If it wasn't Linux it would be BSD or something else free.

Server distros depend on much less GNU developed tools and software than desktop distros. And it's Linux in the cloud and in data centers that elevates the devs to rockstar status. Oh, and I think the latest figures are that 100% of the 50 most powerful supercomputers run Linux.
