An update: I've heard from @TMobile. They're working on a resolution and we hope to hear back from them by close of business today. #DontMuteDC

I appreciate that
@JohnLegere and@TMobile reconsidered their policy and will allow Mr. Campbell's music to continue.#DontMuteDChttps://twitter.com/JohnLegere/status/1116002499410845696 …Show this thread -
I loved seeing all the support for go-go on U Street, both on Tuesday and yesterday at 14th an U. I hope this can be a catalyst for community organizing and a resurgence of go-go in places where people and culture have been squeezed out.

This conversation is not just about music. It's about fighting for policies of truly affordable housing, family support, and cultural investment that will allow our long-time and native residents to continue to call DC a home. That's a fight I pledge to continue.

As a resident of the area, I appreciate them bringing the speakers inside. Perhaps a compromise could be reached where they can leave them outside but turn it down to the point where you can have a conversation across the street.

Or you can leave.....

PERIODT.

Exactly! That music was playing when you viewed and considered that neighborhood. You move there and want to change what’s been appreciated and part of that neighborhood for many years. Thank you, Councilwoman!
-
I'm not asking for it to be shut off, just turned down. I acknowledge and agree the music provides authenticity and adds to the aesthetic of the neighborhood, which is what makes it so desireable. I advocate a balance, so the people who live here can enjoy their homes as well.

That's like me moving to Time Square and complaining about the city noise and the bright lights. You live in a city. Move to NOVA or the suburbs of MD if you can't handle the culture of Shaw.

I would disagree with the analogy. Times Square is not a residential neighborhood and the advertisements there are not in violation of local noise pollution ordinances. If they wanted to designate this a commercial zone and change the law accordingly, they could have.

If the music is loud enough to disrupt spaces not owned by the business, they should turn the music down. There’s no historical/cultural reason why the music needs to be blaring.

GoGo didn’t land on the Colonizers and Gentrifiers they landed on GoGo. You don’t like it, you can leave. Go Go was here before you and them.

Hey folks dig into the story? The complaint is from a visually impaired person whom is having a hard time hearing the crosswalk and surrounding noises. Cc

In your status update, you,
@GNageshRao, should have said “person [who] is having a” instead. Unlike ‘whom’, ‘who’ is the subject of ‘is’.

@BrianneKNadeau I just emailed you a complaint to please mute all the construction noise. I have migraines and every time I go downtown my head start pounding due to the loud banging that’s happening throughout the area. I cc:@MayorBowser thank you.#MuteTheConstruction - End of conversation
