I don't think this is a great argument. Don't most libertarians believe in a military? This seems like exactly the kind of existential risk that would be in a govt portfolio. Enjoy your content. Keep it up!

I can answer this one. The flawless market response has been hindered by too much government interference, so the oppressive state needs to get out of the way. Then we just need to ignore the unpleasant externalities, such as tens of thousands of deaths, and all will be well.

So per usual the libertarian take is pretty identical to the modern day conservative Republican take. Libertarians: conservatives who are too chickenshit to admit they're conservatives.

If the government would just get out of the way, let the market decide when people can get back to work and how to efficently allocate medical supplies and access to testing, the pandemic would sort itself out real quick. This crisis could be an opportunity for entrepreneurs!

The market has failed our country enourmously. Empty store shelves; seizing on the crisis to gouge state governments on life-saving supplies; cutting employees when they don't have to. Comcast ain't gonna save us.

The Libertarians I know are all fuming about the social distancing restrictions, because we should leave social distancing up to... personal responsibility... and the honor system? They're not in the Michigan protests but they're on the Michigan protest's team.

And I have heard at least one Libertarian give the "But The Economy!" argument.
