Bottom line: chloroquine and its cousin hydroxychloroquine have NOT YET been proven to be effective against Coronavirus. Also, taking too much chloroquine too long can cause blindness or heart failure. Do NOT buy this online or do experiments on yourself.

This. I take hydroxychloroquine for lupus. I have blood tests every 6 weeks and annual eye exams to make sure it doesn’t poison me or cause blindness. Those are the precautions you may miss if you try to get it without a doctor.

And the antibiotic that was suggested to be used along with hydroxychloroquine could, if used at a massive scale, increase the risk of resistance in bacteria. A post-antibiotics world would make this pandemic seem like a fresh breeze.

This is important. Where I live (and in many other countries) you can buy any drug over the counter like candy. I can go buy any anti-malarial drug or antibiotic at the corner convenience store - and misinformation about a cure will have people trying this.

Interesting, Jennifer. I'd heard of places like that but have never actually seen one. Scary. Pharmacies may be flooded with fake/counterfeit drugs (it says Viagra but it's really just a sugar pill). What country/city is that?
